Elizabeth's Antique and Collectable Sale
With spring comes the start of antique fairs and the anticipation of garage sales ( in a few more months that is). I've already been on my first vintage shop this year, at the vintage pop up shop on 124st a few weeks ago. But what I really can't wait for is finding lovely treasures of the furniture and housewares variety. Last year I found quite a few treasures at garage sales and antique shows. This year, I hope to do even better. To kick off the season, this Friday and Saturday, at the Alberta Aviation Museum downtown, is the Elizabeth's Antique & Collectable Sale. It runs 2pm-8pm Friday, and 10pm-4pm Saturday, with a $5 entrance fee and over 120 tables of vintage glory to feast on. Expect to find vintage tableware, toys, furniture, clothing and shoes, military memorabilia, knick knacks, and well, who knows what else!

I will be posting tons of dates for vintage fairs and shows this spring and summer so keep a watch out for them! If you have never been to a vintage show, you should make this the year! There are so many treasures just waiting for someone to take them home to love; often you can get a really good price on a great item! I've found many great deals in the short time I have been thrift and vintage shopping. And you just never know what you are going to find!
What is the best vintage piece you've purchased at a sale- garage, thrift, or antique?

A Night at Nola
Last night, a couple of girlfriends and I headed to NOLA for a little Mardi Gras party with The Frolics. I had made reservations, which was good thinking! The small space was filled with people ready for a good night of entertainment.
Although it was not was I was expecting, the space was nicely decorated and the atmosphere was warm and sophisticated. I was hoping for a bit more colour, a larger, more open space, and a relaxing feel. Instead, the tables were cloaked in black table cloths, the lights were nicely dim, it was a tad chilly, and the room was a long rectangle, outfitted with rectangle tables and colourful chairs. It was nice, despite what I was hoping for. I imagine it would be a nice place for a date.
Twenty minutes after being seated, we had not been approached by our server, not even to get our drink order. My friend, had to grab the hostess as she walked by to let her know... A waitress came a few minutes later, and did not even apologize. We ordered food and drinks. The food was disappointing all around. We had ordered a variety of dishes, and none of them were anything to brag about.
The Frolics were great as per usual. However, the sound was not the best, which made the first set hard to enjoy. By the second set the sound seemed to have been worked out. The Burlesque dancers were decent- its always interesting to watch whether they are good or not. Although, we did not stay to watch all the girls dance, the second to preform, who was in a lovely mask and belly dancing costume was my favorite- she even had some nipple tassels which she worked liked like a charm
Over all, we had a good night. I'd go back o NOLA for sure- I'm thinking for lunch or on a date.
Here is my first ever outfit post! This is what I wore to NOLA last night:
Top- Rowena.
Skirt-Dismantled Fashion.
Shoes- Aldo.
Purse- Lux De Ville at Rowena

Dress Me Dearly & Target giveaway
One of my favorite blogs, Dress Me Dearly, is hosting an amazing giveaway! To celebrate Targets long awaited arrival to Canada, Dress Me Dearly is giving away a handful of items from Jason Wu's collection specially designed for Target. Among these items are a lovely floral handbag and a scarf covered in kittens. Check out Dress Me Dearly's blog for a chance to win these limited edition Jason Wu designs and read about her recent adventure to Ottawas Fashion Week! Feel free to check her out on facebook as well, for updates on local events, fashion, and more!

Yesterday, Target opened a pop up shop in Toronto, featuring Jason Wu's collection. Jason Wu was their himself to watch the magic and take photos with early shoppers. The sales from Thursday Toronto pop up shop were donated to the Toronto United Way.
150 Target stores are set to open in Canada in 2013... and I'm sure one of those will be in Edmonton. Although, its not certain yet what the price range is expected to be , as operating costs are a tad bit higher here than in the States. Although with proper management and marketing, Target is set to be a success, as Canadian shoppers have been hoping the border for years just to shop at Target- their low prices and designer collaborations make fashion affordable to the middle and lower class. The current budget friendly stores available to Canadians, unfortunately are, for the most part, poor quality. Target boast it has high quality goods with fair prices. So, keep an eye out for the new kid in town...showing up in a neighborhood near you in 2013.

Mardi Gras at NOLA
Celebrate Mardi Gras this weekend at NOLA - creole kitchen and music house. With authentic New Orleans cuisine and the sounds of Edmonton's finest, Mardi Gras ( winter style) is shaping up to be one heck of a weekend. Friday features the surf rock sounds of The Frolics and Saturday hosts the Boogie Patrol. Tickets are $7 in advanced or $10 at the door
I'll be heading down Friday night to munch on some tapas, sip some cocktails, and imagine I'm somewhere else for the night (and not snowy, cold Edmonton). The Frolics are one of Edmonton's best bands- with a smokin' lead singer to boot- who are not to be missed. As if their rad, surf tunes aren't going to be enough, how about a little Burlesque dancing by River City Revue Burlesque troupe to top off the night? If I were you, I'd get myself some tickets, shine my dancing shoes, and get ready to have killer night.
Be sure to check out NOLA's website to see what their food and drink menu has to offer, as well as their regular entertainment schedule. But expect to pay for good entertainment- there is an entertainment fee of around$7-10 each night. They also suggest making reservations, which you can easily do online.
Also, check out The Frolics facebook page, as well as the River City Revue, to keep up to date on future performances.
See you Friday!

Vintage Pop Up & Duchess
March 2nd and 3rd, a very exciting event is coming our way! A vintage pop up shop! For two very special days, right beside the newly expanded Duchess on 124st, we will be able to scout out vintage treasures- from clothing, jewelry, and an assortment of nic nacs!

This is basically a dream come true for me.Not only do I love vintage shopping, but Duchess is one of the best pastry shops in town. The two combined create a magical afternoon. Duchess Bake Shop has become famous for is french macrons, meringues, and assortment of fine pastries, including their decadent cakes- there is something to suite every taste ( from sweet and sticky to flight and fluffy)
This is sure to be an event you wont want to miss. I hope to see you there, with brioche and vintage in hand.
